With the digi.reporter project, the Oberberg Educational Office supports five primary schools in building their own digital school newspaper: GGS Lindlar-West, GGS Wiedenhof, GGS Schnellenbach, GGS Ründeroth, GGS Körnerstraße (links to two school newspapers can be found below). The project combines language education, media literacy, and democracy education, enabling children to actively shape their school.

The digi.reporter project includes a child-friendly editorial system (Content Management System (CMS)) developed by the "Workshop for Digital Education & Communication gUG" for creating and maintaining their own online school newspaper. The editorial system is GDPR-compliant and specifically designed for schools.

In regular editorial meetings, students at their schools collaboratively develop topics, plan articles, and take on different roles within the editorial team. They conduct research, carry out interviews, write texts, take photographs, create audio and video contributions, and decide together with the project management (usually a teacher at the school) which content will be published. In doing so, they learn to critically evaluate information, assess sources, and take responsibility for their own publications.

Working on the digital school newspaper not only strengthens children's language and writing skills. It also promotes teamwork, creativity, independence, and the ability to contribute their own ideas and consider different perspectives. At the same time, children learn that their opinions matter and that they can actively influence school life.

The Educational Office supports the participating schools throughout the entire project duration and assists them in introducing and implementing the concept.
