Bergische Agency for Cultural Landscapes (BAK)

Since 2016, the Bergische Agency for Cultural Landscape (BAK gGmbH) has been active as the Regional Center "Landscape House" in the BNE State Network NRW in the Oberbergischer Kreis. It is committed to protecting and preserving nature and the cultural landscape in the Bergisches Land, and establishes education for sustainable development (BNE) as an extracurricular learning venue.

The nature and environmental education offerings make the diverse habitats, their resources, and their regional as well as global significance tangible. In doing so, the BAK combines ecological knowledge with social, economic, and global contexts, enhancing the self-efficacy and action competence of participants.

The educational program is aimed at daycare centers, schools, open all-day programs, multipliers, and all interested parties. Topics include biodiversity, water conservation, climate protection, and fair trade. The offerings take place at the Landscape House in Nümbrecht or with the Bergisches Nature Mobile directly on-site and are often free of charge thanks to funding from the state of NRW.

In the state program "School of the Future," BAK advises and supports schools on their way to certification, organizes student academies, and provides training for teachers. It also coordinates the SdZ network "Biological Diversity in the School Environment."
