Mastering challenges in daycare daily routines as a team Daycare center leaders participated in the qualification "Specialist for Collegial Consultation / Intervision" within the Oberberg educational network

20 daycare center leaders successfully participated in the qualification measure "Specialist for 'Collegial Consultation / Intervision'" for leaders of daycare centers and family centers within the Oberberg educational network. During a small celebration, District Administrator Klaus Grootens and Christian Brand, Managing Director of the Educational Foundation of Kreissparkasse Köln, presented certificates to the dedicated leaders.

Strengthening daycare center leaders through qualification

The workday in daycare centers is increasingly characterized by staff shortages, high workloads, and limited resources. Leaders face the challenge of considering their team's burdens, dealing with constrained conditions, and at the same time ensuring the well-being and protection of the children entrusted to them while strengthening the entire team.

To support daycare managers, the Oberberg Education Office launched the "Qualification as a Specialist for 'Collegial Consultation / Intervision'" initiative as a pilot project in December 2025, as part of the "Round Table - Skilled Workforce Demand in Social and Educational Professions" initiative.

The project's goal was to empower leaders to reflect on challenges with professional detachment while keeping an eye on the overall situation in their facilities. Additionally, they were trained to introduce the concept of "Collegial Consultation" into their teams and establish it as a permanent component of collaboration. This allows for the exchange of experiences, utilization of team knowledge, and joint development of solutions for professional challenges.

Thanks to financial support from the Education Foundation of Kreissparkasse Köln, the program was free of charge for participants.

By June 2026, a total of 20 daycare managers from various municipalities in the Oberberg district – from Morsbach to Radevormwald – participated in the training and subsequent monthly meetings under the professional guidance of Sabine Lehmann (Systemic Organizational Consulting), divided into one group each for the northern and southern districts.

"Investing in the qualification of daycare center managers is an investment in the future of our children. We are pleased to support this important project and thus contribute to the sustainable safeguarding and further development of pedagogical quality in the facilities," explained Christian Brand, Managing Director of the Education Foundation.

"Our daycare centers make an indispensable daily contribution to children and families in the Oberberg district. So that the managers can successfully fulfill their responsible tasks even under difficult conditions, they need targeted support and opportunities for professional exchange. With this qualification measure, we strengthen leadership skills and at the same time promote resilience within the teams," emphasized District Administrator Klaus Grootens.

"This project takes the social community responsibility in education and upbringing very seriously with its approach and specifically strengthens managers in their complex work assignments," explained Sabine Lehmann.

"Daycare center managers are the linchpins of their facilities. They lead teams, support families, and make daily decisions with great responsibility for the well-being of the children. This demanding task deserves recognition, professional support, and strong networks for exchange," agreed Kerstin Pack and Birgit Steuer from the Oberberg Education Office.

The two groups in the south and north of the district aim to structurally anchor the exchange and reflection meetings and have scheduled further appointments for this purpose. The findings from the pilot phase are to flow into the further development of corresponding support offers for daycare centers within the Oberberg education network.
